Anatomical Studies on the Splenic Vein and the Spleen in Korean Infants

Abstract
The investigation was carried out to study the branching pattern, caliber and extrasplenic anastomosis of the splenic vein, and the form, length, breadth and thickness of the spleen, and rectilinear length and breadth of the splenic hilus in 102 cases of normal Korean infant cadavers.
The results are summarized as follows:
1. Two-branching type of the splenic vein is observed in 79.4 %, three in 2.9 0o and multiple in 17.6 ¡Æo of the cases.
2. The regression coefficient of caliber of the splenic vein is 0. 10.
3. The extrasplenic anastomosis of the splenic vein is observed in 13.7 %.
4. The forms of the spleen are triangular in 38. 2 %, round in 25.5 %, spindle in 19. 6 %, quadriangular in 7.8 % and the other form in 8.8 %.
5. The figures of the splenic hilus are straight in 35.3 %, )-form in20. 6 %, curved and branched in each 14.7 %, snaky in 5.9 %, L-form in 3.9 % and the other figure in 4.9 %.
6. The straight form hilus is observed 50. 0 % in quadriangular, 46.2 % in round and 40. 0 ¡Æo in spindle form spleen respectively. The curved form hilus is observed 23. 2 % in triangular form spleen.
7. The length, breadth and thickness of infant spleen are 44.1-73.6 mm. 23.7-45.6 mm. and 16.5 -25.6 mm respectively.
8. The rectilinear length and breadth of the splenic hilus are 28.246. 1 mm. and 6. 7-13. 1 mm respectively.
